Mr. Holland's Opus


 ‘Mr. Holland’s Opus’ is an American drama film, which talks about the story of a successful music performer turned teacher, who sets out on a journey to inspire students while trying to compose his own orchestral music.
 
Although he initially faces rejection from the school authorities, Mr. Holland continues to teach, eventually gaining respect from his students and colleagues. But, his life takes an unexpected turn when his son is born deaf and dumb. He realises that he cannot pass his musical skills to his son. He begins to distance himself from the family and his musical composition, and spends more time training the students in school.
 
Directed by Stephen Herek and released in 1995, the movie was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Screenplay, while the actor Richard Dreyfuss was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor for Motion Picture Drama and Academy Awards for Best Actor respectively.
