To sir, with Love


To Sir, With Love is a novel by E. R. Braithwaite, which chronicles his own experience when he took up a teaching post in the East End of London. The book takes us through his struggle to cope with an irrational and highly volatile group of students, who were the 'rejects' in the school system. It tells us the techniques and innovative ideas he used to gain their trust and finally their respect. 
 
It has been portrayed as a motion-picture in 1967, starring Academy-award winner Sidney Poitier in the leading role of Mark Thakeray. The movie opened to positive reviews and good box-office returns in both Britain and the U.S. To Sir, With Love II, the sequel was released after a gap of 29 years in 1996, starring Sidney Poitier in the leading role.
