A Letter to my Teacher’ is a picture book by Deborah Hopkinson, illustrated by Nancy Carpenter. This book celebrates teachers and talks about the difference a teacher can make in the life of a student.
This book is written as a ‘Thank you’ note by a student, to the teacher who made a difference.
The narration talks about the protagonist, a girl who prefers to spend her time playing rather than learning. The girl turns out to be a challenge to all the teachers. Throughout the book, the girl is shown to have an behaviour. Eventually the girl meets a teacher who changes her life. The teacher understands that the girl behaves in a distracted manner because of her struggles with learning. The teacher takes it upon herself to help the child and mould her into a wonderful student. unruly
Towards the end of the story, it is revealed that the student herself took up teaching because of the teacher she had. With colourful illustrations and a beautiful message, this book is a must-read for both teachers and students.
