With the advancement of technology, life has changed so much for most of us in terms of communication, culture, priorities, education, etc. It's natural to wonder about the importance of family in today's modern life. The family is as important as it ever was, no matter how much changes come in due to development.As modern life puts pressure and drains us all, living in a family that understands and cares for us, has become more important than ever. The challenges that we face becomes easier to handle if we have a family and family members to stand by us.
Therefore, we all should be grateful to our families and celebrate the love and affection that we share with one another. For this reason, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution in 1994 and proclaimed 15 May of every year to be observed as the International Day of Families.
The purpose of this global day is to celebrate the importance of family and to increase knowledge of the social, economic and demographic processes affecting families.
This day brings out the significance of families as fundamental units of humanity and gives a chance for government, organisations and individuals to work for the needs and upliftment of families. Since family is the essential unit of the society, there should be means and mediums to protect its interest and eliminate discrimination socially and economically, if any. The key to healthy and protected society is unity, thus we all should come together to celebrate this day.
On this day, schools can organise a special assembly to highlight the importance of family bonds and relationships. Teachers can carry out activities based on family theme, like-

Asking children to prepare a family tree consisting of all the family members and displaying it in the classroom.

Making a rainbow with handprints consisting of all the family members, by using different colours.

Asking children to go through magazines and find pictures of all activities their mothers do at home, cut them and glue it on colour papers to make a collage.

Organising skit competitions depicting family bonds and relationships.

Discussing the family bond and asking children to share their stories of precious family moments.
International Day of Families is a time for celebration, but its also an important day to address challenges that families around the world face.
