Young Scientist programme by ISRO for school children

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Director K Sivan, recently inaugurated the Young Scientist Programme (YUVIKA). The programme is aimed at imparting basic knowledge of science and space technology to students who may be interested in space-related activities.
The director said that the programme is introduced to standard 9 and 10 students who are at an early stage and the programme would help plan their career.
K Sivan added that the programme is aimed at hunting talent not only from big schools but also schools in small hamlets across the country.
Young Scientist programme
The programme is said to be for a duration of two weeks during the summer vacation beginning from the second half of May 2019 and the schedule will invite talks, facility and lab visits and practical sessions.
It is proposed to select 3 students from each state and union territory to participate in this programme covering ICSE, CBSE and state syllabus.
There are a few seats left for the programme and it is proposed to select through online registration. Those who have completed their class 9 is eligible to register for the course.
About the programme
  1. ISRO will select over 100 students from across India to teach them about satellites.
  2. The programme will be a two-week residential training programme.
  3. Students will be selected on the basis of their academic performance and extracurricular activities.
  4. All the expenses of travelling and boarding will be funded entirely by ISRO.
  5. Students will be encouraged to develop 'scientific payloads' that can be launched by ISRO.
  6. Students from rural areas will be given special weight in the selection.
