Mindfulness and meditation to become a part of England’s school curriculum
 - 3 June, 2019
Children across 370 schools in England will be taught how to meditate along with muscle relaxation and breathing techniques. This programme is conducted based on a mental health survey that the British government set up to run until 2021.
Schools in England have begun addressing the issues that children face when they are unable to understand certain of their feelings and vent them out in the form of tantrums. Thereby, to combat this issue, schools in England decided to teach students methods on how to meditate, muscle relaxation and breathing exercises to improve their overall mental health.
National Health Service has reported that 1 in 8 British students suffer from the early onset of depression and anxiety. Thereby, through the current use of mindfulness and meditation practices among 370 British schools, 1 in 5 students will be able to get access to treatment.
England isn’t the only country that has added mindfulness as a subject among schools. In 2016, a school in Baltimore decided to replace detention with an area where the children could practice some breathing and stretching exercises instead.
