Taare Zameen Par (Like Stars on Earth) is a 2007 drama film that emotionally touched all kinds of audience across the country. Produced and directed by Aamir Khan, it is the story of a 8 year old dyslexic boy, portrayed by Darsheel Safary.The eight year-old Ishaan Awasthi (Darsheel Safary), who is dyslexic, finds it difficult to cope with classes in school. Unaware of his condition, Ishaan is criticised by his father and his teachers and is also constantly compared to his elder brother, who is a topper in the same school. To solve Ishaan’s behavioural problems and help him score better, his father sends him to a boarding school, assuming that the austerity and the environment there will help him change. However, without his family’s affection, especially his mother’s, Ishaan goes into a state of anxiety and continues to remain poor in his academic performance.
Things change for Ishaan when Ram Shankar Nikumbh (Aamir Khan) joins the school as the new art teacher. He analyses Ishaan’s attitude and realises that Ishaan has a peculiar problem. After meeting Ishaan’s parents, Nikumbh realises that Ishaan is dyslexic and that he is struggling to understand what he is studying. Nikumbh befriends Ishaan, interacts with him compassionately and helps him perform well and improve his grades.
Tracing the life of a student in the course of one complete year, Taare Zameen Par tells its viewers that each child is special in his/her own way. It spreads a strong message to the society and hits the must-watch movies list.
