Homemade Bubbles

Homemade Bubbles

Things needed-

  • One cup of dishwash liquid
  • Six cups of water (distilled works the best but, tap water will also work)
  • A large, empty container
  • One spoon of glycerine or ¼ cup of corn syrup
  • One large spoon
  • A bubble wand
Directions-
  1. Pour six cups of water into the large empty container and pour the dishwashing liquid in it. Using the large spoon, carefully mix the dishwashing liquid and water without forming any bubbles or foam.
  2. Measure one teaspoon of glycerine or the ¼ cup of corn starch, and add the contents into the large container of dishwashing liquid and water. Stir the solution until everything is mixed together.
  3. You can use the solution right away, but it is advised to keep the solution overnight to make better bubbles.
  4. Dip the bubble wand into the solution and slowly pull it out and wait a few seconds and then blow bubble as large as you can.
How does this work?
A bubble soap mixture is actually made of three very thin layers namely soap, water and another layer of soap. This mixture is what is called a soap film. A soap bubble pops when the water that is trapped between the two layers of soap evaporates.
In the homemade bubble, the glycerine or corn syrup mixed with the dishwashing liquid makes it thicker. The thicker skin of the glycerine bubbles keeps the water from evaporating as quickly, so they last longer. Thus, you can blow big bubbles.
