AICTE to get retired IIT, NIT professors to mentor colleges
 - 27 April, 2019
India’s apex higher education body, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), has launched a new programme under which retired faculty of IITs and NITs will be invited to mentor the faculty of various institutes that do not have accreditation from National Board of Accreditation (NBA). This decision has been taken to prevent the shutting down of institutes that may not get accredited by NBA.
Since December 2017, the body has been in a mission to improve the quality of technical education in the country. At present, 85% of the technical institutes stand unaccredited.
Under the scheme, the mentor professors will be required to assist the mentee institutes in teacher training and outcome-based education (OBE) improving the pedagogy and classroom transactions, developing better laboratory or practical assessment.
AICTE is looking forward to including more professors who have decades of experience in technical education and have been in leadership role so that they can effectively guide the institutes.
