Abel Prize gets its first woman winner

Karen Uhlenbeck became the first woman recipient of the most prestigious mathematics prize in the world, called the ‘Abel Prize’. Karen has a PhD and is a professor at the University of Texas, and a visiting senior research scholar at Princeton University.
The Abel Prize was awarded for her outstanding contribution for the field of Geometric Analysis and Gauge Theory. Her fundamental work and research are believed to have made a major impact in the fields of mathematics and physics.
‘The Abel’ is known as the Nobel Prize for Math, and Prize is a Norwegian prize awarded annually by King of Norway to one or more outstanding mathematicians. It comes with a cash prize of about $ 700,000 and was established in 2003. All the previous winners have been men.
