The state government of Tamil Nadu has launched ‘Kaalai Unavu Thittam’ a breakfast scheme for school students. It is jointly implemented by the Greater Chennai Corporation and the Akshaya Patra Foundation.
This welfare initiative will create eagerness among students to look forward to school, for hot and delicious breakfast every morning cooked at Akshaya Patra kitchens.
The scheme has been planned initially to cover 5000 students from across 23 corporation-run schools. For now, the scheme has been inaugurated for 1000 students studying at Chennai primary school and Chennai higher secondary school in Thiruvanmiyur and Chennai primary school in Thiruvanmiyur Kuppam.
Akshaya Patra Foundation will cook and deliver the food at these schools at their own cost, to bring all corporation school students under this scheme so that they are well-fed before their classes begin.
This scheme fulfils the vision of ‘Poshit Bharat Shikshit Bharat’ movement.
