Project work in subjects like language and social science: CBSE
– 07 February, 2019

Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will be introducing practical and project work to evaluate humanities on the lines of subjects like science and economics.
The Board plans to bring about changes in subjects for which theory-based learning has been the norm. The revamped scheme is likely to be in place for the 2019-2020 academic session and the 2020 board examinations. School teachers are likely to have a greater say in the award of marks for practical assignments and projects considered by CBSE.
The objective behind introducing project work is to make exams more practical-based, instead of theory-heavy, to dissuade rote learning.
CBSE also plans to introduce project work in subjects like social science and languages. Overall, a student would need to complete a project for 30 marks and attempt exam for 70 marks. The Board has also hinted at an increase in the percentage of practical marks.
