‘Entrepreneurial skills’ as a subject in Delhi government schools
- 11 April, 2019
The Delhi government is set to implement the Entrepreneurship Mindset curriculum in 1,022 government schools for the students of classes 9 to 12 in July 2019.
The main aim is to develop the entrepreneurial culture among youngsters and their technical learning abilities.
The project has been designed by the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT). ‘The programme will help them identify business opportunities, assessing resources for setting up a business, and learning from the life of successful entrepreneurs in the classroom’ said Sunita Kaushik, director of SCERT.
In the first week of the pilot project, introductory sessions were conducted to learn student’s abilities. The students were analysed based on their storytelling and soft skills. In the first week itself, the project received more than 2000 online feedback from school teachers.
The curriculum has provided Entrepreneurship Mindset Facilitator Manual (EMF) to the teachers, which will focus on helping the students in understanding their entrepreneurship abilities and training them on the various aspects of risk management during business operations. The vision is to create an entrepreneurial mindset in students so that they become job creators instead of job seekers.
Around 7 lakh students will be trained under this programme based on their basic foundation and entrepreneurship abilities. This will help the students in identifying their goals. The initial stage of the curriculum will focus on inspiring students and helping teachers train in risk management, whereas at the higher stages, the students will learn about the planning and execution of the ideas built by them.
