Facebook launches digital skilling initiative

 - 08 February, 2019

Facebook has launched a digital skilling initiative called GOAL (Going Online As Leaders), to train tribal girls from five Indian states, so that they become village-level digital young leaders for their community.

The programme will train young girls from West Bengal, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Odisha and Madhya Pradesh. The initiative will train the girls on digital literacy, life skills, leadership and entrepreneurship for a period of one year.
Apart from skill development, a set of 25 women leaders, from diverse backgrounds, will mentor four girls each through Facebook and WhatsApp on a fortnightly basis.
The programme will mainly focus on girls who have dropped out from school due to financial constraints.  The only criteria for the applicants is that they should be over the age of 18 years and must be of tribal origin.
