Gagandeep Kang becomes the first Indian woman to be elected as Fellow of Royal Society

Gangandeep Kang, executive director of the Translational Health Science and Technology Institute (THSTI), Faridabad, has been selected as a Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS), London. She is the first Indian woman scientist selected as FRS in 359 years of history of this prestigious scientific history.
She is known for her interdisciplinary research, development and prevention of enteric infections and their sequelae in children in India. Kang has built national rotavirus and typhoid surveillance networks and established laboratories to support vaccine trials and conducted phase 1-3 clinical trials of vaccines.
The 57-year old researcher is a part of the list which includes Canadian-American mathematician of Indian origin Manjul Bharghava who is Professor of Mathematics at Princeton University in the United States.
Founded on 28 November, 1660, the Council and Fellows of the Royal Society of London for improving Natural Knowledge, commonly known as the Royal Society, is the oldest scientific academy.
