Sanitary napkin vending machines in Vadodara schools

Sanitary napkin vending machines in Vadodara schools
 - 15 February,2019
The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has started an initiative to provide free sanitary napkins for school girls studying in civic-run schools.
The sanitary pad vending machines have been installed in 10 of the 104 schools of the city run by VMC. The machine is easy to operate, requires low maintenance and comes with an incinerator to dispose the sanitary napkins.
According to the Children in India 2018 report, over 30% of girl students in India drop out of schools by class 9 and the number rises to 57% as they reach class 11. The major reason for the drop out is the lack of proper hygiene facilities in schools for girls.
The new initiative by VMC carried out under Swachh Bharat Mission will not only help to tackle the dropout rate among girls but will also promote cleanliness.
