School students develop eco-friendly water purifier and an app for farmers
 - 16 April, 2019
Two school students from Bangalore and New Delhi have created an innovative app for farmers who are facing pest attack on their crops and an eco-friendly affordable water purifier to deal with the drinking water crisis, respectively.
Aryan Mehra, a class 9 student of Modern School Barakhamba Road, New Delhi, was felicitated for making an eco-friendly, affordable and easy-to-make water purifier called ‘Aqua Review’. A chemistry professor from Delhi University helped him with this project.
The water purifier is a simple, two-litre water bottle, which has a piece of muslin cloth, water purifier candle and a filter paper attached to it. It has a portion containing silica sand to remove bacteria, and an activated charcoal, silver nitrate and cupric oxide layer that purifies water.
The demo of Aqua Review has been conducted in slums in Delhi and Haryana. Due to the simple making method, the purifier is low cost and can be easily purchased by people with moderate incomes.
Kaushik Kunal Singh, a class 9 student of Inventure Academy, Bangalore was felicitated for making an app for farmers. The app allows automated diagnosis and tracking of plant diseases using a novel technique which facilitates instant and accurate diagnosis of crops.
While developing this app, Kaushik received guidance from experts from the agriculture and technology domain. After incorporating few more changes, this app will be available to farmers in villages.
These students were felicitated for their exceptional abilities to innovate, at the annual ‘Pramerica Spirit of Community Awards’ held in Gurugram.
