Earlier, the department had introduced vocational courses in 67 government schools across the state, on a pilot basis. Courses in agriculture, apparel, beauty and wellness, electronics and hardware, and multi skills were chosen. Two courses were allotted to each school.
Trainers have been roped in through vocational training providers (VTP) and a sum of Rs 48,000 has been sanctioned to each school to procure the required equipment. The education department has also allotted funds to set up labs. With these facilities, the students will be given hands-on training for an hour every day, in an industrial set-up in the school.
The syllabus for the vocational training will be framed as per the National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF) and the students will take NSQF examination at the end of the course. The courses will enable the students to take up level II and level IV of NSQF exam when they are in class X and XII respectively.
