My Teacher, My Inspiration!

My Teacher, My Inspiration!

Ms. Reetu Verma is a kindergarten teacher at Delhi Public School, Etawah, who loves crayons, craft and recycling. She has been working with children for over 14 years and says she learns something new every day.

She says, “Giving a little of yourself to a child, gives you a lifetime of laughter, stories and a heart full of memories. Teaching comes from the heart, and that, will never change. I love the idea of teaching and being a role model that will hopefully inspire the children whose lives I touch. Watching young children grow as they flourish with knowledge is priceless.”

Great teachers don’t just teach us; they change us. The heart of learning is this connection between a teacher and a student. That is the centerpiece of school success: a teacher forming a bond with a student, triggering the student’s hunger to learn, and guiding in the right way. Teachers have always played an integral role in my life, and I’ve been fortunate to have strong bonds with teachers who believed in me, made demands of me, and lit up my hunger for learning.

I have had the benefit of many great teachers, but the one who influenced me the most is Mrs. Madhu Verma. Without her, I would not have joined the teaching profession.

She taught me English literature and language in school. She explained things in a manner that showed her enthusiasm for her subject, but she also made references to things that she had read and I hadn't in a manner that made me want to research further for myself. She never lost her temper, but had such a rare quality that if you didn't share her enthusiasm you felt that you had let yourself down, not her. Homework that was submitted was always marked within a week and included ways of increasing my expression as well as what I had done right and where I could improve. She really stretches and challenges her students.

I can still remember in English class, when I used to wait for her to enter into the class & spread over the positive vibrations. She was epic & inspiring. She was like every other teacher but the way she used to emit the quality education with the mission of spreading knowledge was commendable. She taught in a way that we had fun, and she had fun with it as well. I thought, “I want a career where I can encourage this kind of attitude toward learning and enjoyment”. She made teaching look so easy that I decided that I could follow in her footsteps - and I did.

She has been my teacher, counsellor, coach, and friend. She still keeps me inspired and has helped me become who I am today.

Knowing Madhu Ma’am for 28 years now has been a major blessing in my life. She has watched me grow over the years and ensured that as I shoot for the moon, I don’t get caught up staring at the stars. Her presence means that I always have someone to look up to and whom I could ask for advice without hesitation. Ma’am means the world to me, my true guide. Having her in my life has really built up my spirit.

Happy Teacher’s Day Ma’am!
