World Book Day

World Book Day

In 1995, UNESCO officially designated 23rd April as the date to celebrate World Book Day.
The main aim of celebrating this day is to encourage students to read books and to also appreciate the passion of writing. To celebrate the day, enthusiastic readers can buy books from a popular book store and encourage others to do so as well.
The more we indulge into reading books, the more we understand the world around us, and more we discover life beyond what we already know. It is important for students to make books their best friend.
Books make better communicators.
  • It educates.
  • It increases vocabulary.
  • It motivates and inspires.
  • It stimulates creativity.
How can schools celebrate World Book Day?
  1. Ask students to write a summary of their favourite book.
  2. Give them a free day with a book. Ask them to read the novel through out the day and write an article reviewing that book.
  3. Exchange novels with friends.
  4. Form a book club in school.
  5. Jot down a list of books which are worth reading and take a resolution to complete it by the year.
  6. Ask students to write biography of their favourite author.
  7. Design a poster to advertise your favourite book.
  8. Enact a story in the class, form a group if necessary.
  9. Create a book reading club where famous novels and literary pieces are read.
In this age and time where children hardly read books, let us educators take this day as the beginning of a new era and inculcate the habit of reading among children.
